Sonia Burel est une artsite peintre, sa démarche artistique relève de l’abstraction géométrique. Elle est une construction abstraite mentale basée sur l’équilibre des formes et des couleurs relevant soit de mon imaginaire intérieur soit de la « représentation » abstraite d’une réalité qui a retenu mon attention, mon regard.
Dans ce deuxième cas de figure, certains éléments de la réalité qui m’ont séduit sont pris à part et constituent par la suite le sujet principal du futur tableau. Ce peut être des couleurs, des lumières, des formes géométriques. Ils sont alors transposés de façon géométrique dans une composition où la réalité initiale est elle aussi présente mais de façon schématique.
Dans ma série de tableaux sur les lumières (Paris by night, Cab, Canal St-Martin…) j’ai voulu retranscrire de façon abstraite les lumières de la ville se détachant d’un panorama citadin variant selon le sujet du tableau. Les lumières dans ces tableaux constituent l’objet principal de la composition, et sont représentées par des carrés de couleurs vives, fidèles à la réalité initiale. Ils se détachent du fond tout comme une lumière qui scintille et créent un rythme particulier dans la construction géométrique du tableau. Cette transcription abstraite géométrique peut être interpretée comme une déconstruction du réel, une pixélisation désordonnée du sujet.

Sonia Burel is a painter, his artistic approach is geometric abstraction. It is a mental abstract construction based on the balance of forms and colors that is either part of my inner imagination or the abstract «representation» of a reality that caught my attention, my gaze.
In this second case, certain elements of reality that seduced me are taken apart and subsequently constitute the main subject of the future picture. It can be colors, lights, geometric shapes. They are then transposed geometrically into a composition where the initial reality is also present but schematically.
In my series of paintings on lights (Paris by night, Cab, Canal St-Martin, etc.), I wanted to transcribe in an abstract way the lights of the city standing out from a city panorama varying according to the subject of the painting. The lights in these paintings are the main object of the composition, and are represented by squares of bright colors, faithful to the original reality. They stand out from the background as a light that sparkles and create a particular rhythm in the geometric construction of the painting. This geometric abstract transcription can be interpreted as a deconstruction of reality, a disorderly pixelation of the subject.
